Women capable of building country - King

-

BUHLENI – His Majesty King Mswati III has observed capabilities in Lutsango ahead of the upcoming national elections.

He was speaking yesterday at Buhleni Royal Residence during the main day of the Buganu Ceremony.

The King therefore urged women across the country to support each other to ensure that they were elected to contribute ideas in building and fixing the country. The Monarch said the fact that women were capable of composing and singing cultural songs meant that they could contribute a lot in building the country. “As a country, there is a need to ascertain why women were not elected into Parliament. Women are capable of contributing towards building the country,” the King said.

Worth mentioning is that the election of women at tinkhundla level had never reached 30 per cent despite the provision of the Constitution. This has resulted in the King appointing women to reach the percentage. Some women MPs had been elected regionally to reach the percentage. The King also suggested the recording of songs for every year’s event.

DOUBTED

On another note, the King stated that he doubted the weather ahead of the main event. Noted was that there were different weather patterns during the course of the event. At first there was sunshine, which was later followed by heavy rain. The heavy rain was followed by sunshine until sunset. Stars were visible on the sky during the course of the event in the evening.

“I doubted if the event would go ahead judging from the different weather patterns. I was wondering if you would be able to showcase what you have been preparing. But God and the ancestors made it possible. Kuvele nje kwatsi ntfweshu,’’ the King said.

He encouraged the nation to make good use of the marula fruit to earn a living, as well as improve the economy.

Her Majesty The Indlovukazi, who introduced the King to Lutsango shared the same sentiment with the head of State. She emphasised on the importance of women being elected into Parliament and making good use of the fruit of the marula tree .

She said the fact that Lutsango brought all kinds of crops, fruits and vegetables showed that they lived to their name ‘phezukomkhono’.
