MBABANE – Eswatini Olympics and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) has signed regional cooperation agreements with two ANOCA Zone VI countries.
ANOCA is an acronym for Associations of National Olympics Committees for Africa. In an event to mark off EOCGA’s double celebration of 50 years of existence and inauguration of its new headquarters on Saturday, EOCGA then signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Africa (SA) and Lesotho.
This signing of the agreements was witnessed by both ANOCA Vice President Motlohang Moiloa-Ramoqoqo, who represented the president and ANOCA Zone VI President Alfred Fokolo as well as the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga.
Signing
“We’ll also witness the signing of the MoUs between the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as well as Lesotho National Olympic Committee (NOC). Congratulations to the president of the Zone for promoting the collaborations between our NOCs,” said Moiloa-Ramoqoqo while delivering her speech on the day before the signing of the MoUs.
Signing the MoUs was EOCGA President Adam Mthethwa and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele. Lesotho NOC President Tlali Ramapooana and CEO Morake Raleaka signed on behalf of Lesotho. SA also signed through SASCOC President Barry Hendricks and CEO Nozipho Jafta.
Agreement
Speaking later on during a gala dinner hosted by EOCGA at Happy Valley Hotel, Minister Bulunga welcomed the regional agreement. “We also witnessed today (Saturday), as part of the great milestones we are celebrating, the promotion of regional cooperation through the establishment of partnerships with SASCOC and the Lesotho NOC. We eagerly look forward to the fruits of these cooperation agreements signed today and we further encourage more of such, since together we can achieve more,” said the minister.
