Afro Tenors’ sold-out show at Hilton

- BY PHUMZILE NDLOVU

MBABANE – South African (SA) Opera singers serenaded locals on Friday night at the Hilton Garden Inn, at a sold out show.

The trio is famous for a brilliant fusion of classical African tradition and superb Eurocentric opera by incorporating contemporary and delicate ethnic elements. The group consists of; Given Mabena, Lucky Sibandan and Agos Moahi.

Their show at the Hilton Garden Inn started at 7pm and they had two sets each taking up to 45 minutes. It’s worth noting, that one member of the trio Agos Moahi, took ill early in the week and couldn’t perform in Eswatini. However, the duo brought along a Soprano lady, Bongiwe Madlala to perform with them, as they were one man down

Expectations

When reached for comment the organiser of the show Nelisa Lawton shared with this publication that the show exceeded her expectations. “The show went exactly how we had hoped, but even better. People came out all dressed to be at the Hilton. It is was worth mentioning that they used a local band and had two sets, as they went to change and performed once again.” She went on to say another liSwati also performed with the Tenors and her name is Bongiwe Dlamini.

The Three Afro Tenors is a function band and one of SA’s best in Opera. The operatic band commonly performs in either traditional Madiba shirts or tuxedos.
