MBABANE – “I’m healing well.”
These were the words of high jump sensation Erikah Seyama. The ace high jumper sustained an Achilles injury on July 18, last year, just before the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. At the beginning of February, this year, she started bio kinetics (a process of making the leg stronger).
She will stay on bio kinetics for another month before she can proceed to the next phase of her recovery. “Currently the furthest I can run is 150 metres. My achilles is still tight,” said the gifted high jumper Seyama.
Her yearly programme is on pause for now in terms of competing until she fully recovers. However, she does have a recovery programme that seems to be helping her get back to the mats effectively.
Meanwhile,Seyama shot to stardom when she won a gold medal at the 2018 African Championships in Asaba, Nigeria. Despite the 1.64 height, she has jumped 1.83 metres as her personal best.
This made it her second gold outside of the country. Seyama, who studied at Tswane University, contested in the Universiade twice as well as represented her country in Doha at the 2019 World Championships.
