Cricket association’s drills for teachers
MBABANE – More than 20 primary school teachers have been capacitated by the Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA) for their cricket building exercise in schools.
The flashy workshop took place on Friday at Lavumisa Town Council Conference Room with participants from across the country. The participating schools were identified for piloting the cricket sessions by ECA.
‘‘As an association, we’re extremely excited with these huge numbers here. Cricket is under the awareness stage and foundation in the country. We’re so humbled and pleased. We would like to extend our special gratitude to the administrators in schools for allowing you to come to this workshop,” Zone Coordinator Sandile Dlamini remarked.
Dlamini was also the Programme Director for the day. He introduced the facilitators for the workshop while Manqoba Jele, who was one of the presenters for the day, introduced the teachers to the EdApp where they were assisted to log in and a number of features were explained. In the app, teachers discuss topics like basics of cricket, balls used in a cricket game, as well as the formats, to name a few.
ATTENTIVE
“There are three formats for a cricket game. There’s the test game which takes five days. Then there’s one day international which takes about eight hours. The Twenty-20 International takes about three and a half hours,” clarified Jele to the attentive audience as he also unpacked the basics of batting.
Next to facilitate was Sibongiseni Dlamini, a Cricket Instructor and Coach.
He presented about training considerations, bowling basics and session planning which is all about what a coach does during his or her drilling. A lot of demonstrations were done for the benefit of the participants.
Meanwhile, the ECA Chief Operations Officer (COO) Mandla Dlamini thanked all participants who made the workshop a success and said this was just the beginning of a long journey.
He said teachers acquired skills to capacitate learners in schools about the sport and asserted that teachers stood a chance to get more opportunities if they desire to further their studies in the sport, with the association ready to assist.
‘‘It was an excellent experience to be in the workshop. It’ll add value to the learners since it’s a novel sport to them. I’m sure the sport will work as a catalyst to the pupils, optimising their attendance in schools each day,” the COO said.
He was also thrilled when one of the Mlindazwe Primary School educators reflected that they were just as pleased to learn about the sport and that they were ready to learn further and implement it in their schools.
