MBABANE – Moving with the times!
Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) went digital last Wednesday, which coincided with the commemoration of World Radio Day.
To celebrate this milestone the EBIS broadcasted live at Mpaka. When reached for comment EBIS Director Sabelo Dlamini, elaborated more on this new development. “We went online on Radio Day which was last Wednesday (March 1). We are trying to reach more people in different areas. Inasmuch as lots of people still tune in to listen to radio, we decided to tap into another platform to get a wider reach to the public. The public can now access the radio live by logging into www. ebis.co.sz ”.
Programme
Dlamini went on to say that sometimes people might want to tune in to their favourite programme, but are not close to a radio and end up missing out, hence going online will make it easier as the public can use their cell phone and just plug in their earphones to listen to their favourite station. It’s worth mentioning that both the siSwati and English Channel are accessible online. When quizzed on why they chose Mpaka to launch going online he said, “We chose Mpaka as one of the regions where we will be doing more live broadcasts. We plan on visiting the other three regions as well over time.’’
Platforms
According to the director they are also on all social media platforms as well, on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and on YouTube, their handle is @ EBISradio. This publication reached out to veteran Radio Broadcaster Lindelwa Mafa to get her view on the new development. She said, “We are excited about this new development, it was long overdue. With the leadership of Sabelo Dlamini the direction and sound of radio will definitely change. He is the type of leader who engages and asks us what we need to make the station better. We are excited with the latest milestone in local radio, it’s the beginning of better things to come.’’ Mafa went on to express that it was a challenge when people queried when they would also be available online and at times they will end up not responding, hence this move is definitetly welcome.
