MBABANE - The Distell Group and Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards panel have announced the highly anticipated list of nominees, including a local in contention for the prestigious awards that reward outstanding work in the theatre industry annually.
Lwazi Dlamini a local Opera singer who has travelled parts of the world showcasing his talent has been nominated in the same awards Category 14 under the Best Perfomance in an Opera, Male.
Now in their 58th year, the awards are South Africa s’ (SA) most prominent and longest running awards of their kind and Fleur du Cap nominees or winners are always proud to highlight this award on their biographic and promotional material. The theatre fraternity managed to raise the curtain on an impressive 59 productions eligible for consideration last year despite the COVID-19 restrictions early that year.
Nominations
Dlamini with his Le Nozze di Figaro, Bartolo is up against Conroy Scott for Le Nozze di Figaro, Smelo Mahlangu, Van Wyk Venter and William Berger. Dlamini expressed his excitement for the upcoming awards and a privilege to be nominated.
Nominations were done by the panel of judges across 21 competitive categories. The names of the winners will be revealed at a red-carpet, openair celebration at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch on the evening of Sunday, March 26. At the same occasion, the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement and Innovation in Theatre Awards will also be announced. Every category winner will receive a sum of E15 000.
