MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) is not taking lightly the issue of poor attendance by fans and supporters in stadiums.

The number of supporters during the MTN Premier League games in recent times has fallen slightly even for the big three in Manzini Wanderers, Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows.

Speaking on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS 1) Sports Show hosted by Siphesihle ‘Sihlabani’ Nxumalo yesterday, PLE Football Manager Pat Vilakati said as an office responsible for the organisation and playing of games in the elite leagues, they were concerned by the declining number of supporters and fans attending matches.

Decline

Chief Operations Officer (COO) said.

He said there were many factors that could be attributed to the declining number of fans attending games, which as PLE they might analyse and try to rectify where possible.

He was quick to highlight that teams also had a role to play in rectifying the situation.

Contribute

He also disclosed that it was one of their major concerns to help teams that were not performing well which could also contribute to the decline of the attendance in games as maybe the standard of the matches displayed by the clubs was not the one the supporters were looking for.

“The teams might have some challenges to give us the entertainment which we are looking for, but the major challenges that we have witnessed is the issue of funds, which was a global concern not just for local clubs,” Vilakati said.

He further said they helped teams, which came knocking on their offices for assistance as the PLE adopted the open door policy.
