MBABANE- “The club will always be in my heart.”

These were the remarks of exciting Denver Sundowns attacking midfielder Mike Dombo, who revealed in a postmatch interview that he was missing his team, while in Malta after helping Denver Sundowns defeat Manzini Wanderers 5-0 in an entertaining Manzini derby that played at Mavuso Sports Centre last Sunday afternoon.

The former Manzini Wanderers dribbling wizard was invited for trials by Club Deportovo Banerchea, who wanted to assess him over a period of two weeks and the player revealed that while in Malta he was missing his team and seeing the team struggling broke his heart.

“Although I was not expecting to come back after having a successful stint with Club Deportovo Banerchea but while in Malta I was missing my team and seeing the boys struggling while I was away broke my heart and made me sad,” he said.

The Cameroon-born player also mentioned that when he told the management of Ikappa kappa, as Denver Sundowns are fondly known, that he was coming back made them sad and happy for him at the same time.

Believed

“When I told the Sundowns management that I was coming back to try and help the team, they were really happy because they believed in my capabilities as a player and at that time the team was enduring a bad spell in the league.

“I would also say that the management was also sad because they always wanted the best opportunities for all the Sundowns players to play abroad,” said Dombo, who turned down a short-term deal in Malta.

The Gcina Dlamini-led youthful side had not won a single match since he departed to the European country and the return of Dombo saw Sundowns winning one of their last two MTN Premier League games. Sundowns will be looking to continue their winning momentum when they visit Royal Leopard this weekend.
