LONDON - Chelsea’s clash with Borussia Dortmund at Stamford Bridge was delayed by 10 minutes last night, owing to traffic outside Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter’s side were looking to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit, though they were to wait for kick-off owing to the visitor’s delayed arrival into the ground.

The German side, who are one of the in-form sides in the whole of Europe, arrived around 30 minutes late to the ground. That was despite the side training in London earlier in the day, in Moorgate, on a bobbly pitch, which costs £1 000 per hour to hire. Dortmund trained at Chelsea’s stadium on Monday in preparation for the match, with Edin Terzic’s side having won 10 successive games since football resumed in Germany following the World Cup.

However, on the day of the game, Dortmund were snapped having a pre-game warm-up on a bobbly surface at the Artillery Ground in Islington.

Just five minutes from Moorgate and Old Street stations, the private venue belongs to the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) - which is associated with the oldest regiment in the British Army.

“Bit of a delay but now we are here, we are ready,” Dortmund boss Edin Terzic said. “We didn’t know if we were going to start on time or if there would be a delay, but it won’t effect us.” Dortmund’s hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals were dealt a blow by the news first-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel would miss out on the starting XI owing to a thigh injury suffered on Friday night.

“It’s too risky to start him, but he’s on the bench if we need him,” he said. “We’re going to speak about the system, we expect a similar line up to how they played against Leeds, but we are ready for this.
