EZULWINI – Government is working toward integrating gender and energy in school curriculum.
This was revealed by Gender Specialist under the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, Gideon Gwebu. Gwebu was speaking during the commemoration of the International Women’s Day, themed: ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.’
He said workshops had already been held for Curriculum Designers and the Life Skills Education (LSE) Subject Panel Members as foundational processes.
According to Gwebu, currently, they were in the process of identifying key gender and energy thematic areas for content development.
Established
He said following the capacity building session on gender and energy issues, the next processes were yet to be established with the Guidance and Counselling Department.
Furthermore, he added that the Mentorship and Internship Programme (MNRE) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Junior Achievement – Eswatini. This, he said was for purposes of facilitating a job shadowing exercise for 40 learners (girls and boys) within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field.
Gwebu also mentioned that learners from various schools in the four regions of the country had been identified.
He said a request to host the learners had already been made with the various companies within the energy sector and the exercise would last for two weeks.
The activity will be held this month (March 2023) as part of the national activities in commemoration of the 2023 International Women’s Day.
