SITEKI – A 47-year-old barlady sustained serious injuries on her face and head after a brawl ensued on Saturday.

This was after she had been accused of stealing E7 000 from Amahle Bottle Store situated at Mzilikazi in the outskirts of Siteki.

Fikile Hlophe claimed over 10 patrons witnessed the brawl that resulted in the bar owner’s friend picking up a beer bottle and assaulting her with it.

The barlady alleged that the source of the confrontation was that she was accused by the friend of having called officials from the Department of Commerce, Industry and Trade on the basis that the business’s operating licence had not been renewed.

Hlophe said the officials visited the business and instructed her to close the bottle store.

She claimed that the friend went to the Siteki offices to pay the fine.

The barlady said the fight happened at around 8pm, alleging that the friend grabbed a money bag she was carrying.

Instructed

“We sold less than E1 000 because the bottle store had to be closed after the officials instructed us to do so. I only shoved her from me when she was busy assaulting me with the beer bottle. An ambulance was called by the patrons and I was admitted to the Good Shepherd Hospital,” she claimed.

The barlady said the police were also called but she opened a case on Sunday.

The bottle store owner said even though he was away and did not know what prompted the fight between the two, he established that

Hlophe has allegedly not cashed E7 000 that was supposedly sold from the stock on Friday.

The owner said his friend also sustained serious injuries during the fight.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superitendent Phindile Vilakati said a docket had been opened about this matter.
