Growth Without Limits boost MPC

- THE NOMINEES: BY CHRIS DLAMINI POOL RESULTS: POOL LOG STANDINGS

MBABANE – What you wear as a team does wonders in motivating the players to get positive results, this proved true for Manzini Pool Club (MPC) last weekend.

The team plies its trade under the richly sponsored Dixie’s International Pool League which has reached its fifth edition this year. MPC are also winners of the second edition of the league sponsored to the tune of E40 000, which has been retained in the last three editions despite COVID-19 hitting hard on businesses in 2020/21. The fourth edition was played last year as all sports were now allowed to resume with COVID-19 figures having drastically gone down.

The team boasting star players like senior men’s national team star, Sithembiso ‘Dodge’ Matsebula and Eddie Mkhonta among others, played its league game in a new playing kit. Awesome they looked in it, just as the splendid display on the pool tables at Manzini Pool Club last Saturday afternoon.

They hit debutants Q Potters for a bonus point when they annihilated them 13-2 to go top of the table with a point-advantage. MPC have 16 points to second-placed Malkerns’ 15. The latter held the summit before last weekend’s games, but were beaten 10-13 by Figaredo. “We played in new uniform which every player loved and felt good wearing it. It basically motivated us to wear the new uniform as the season is still in its early stages. It’s a sponsored kit by Growth Without Limits, a locally based company to which we are very grateful for this gesture,” Dodge said when asked about the kit before they went on to score a bonus win.

In other matches, third-placed first edition winners Way Inn also managed a win against army team Garrison and now have 15 points, level with Malkerns and two points ahead of Ludzeludze 1 and Stairs who are also tied on 13 points after five matches apiece.

Garrison managed to redeem themselves when they beat Q Potters 13-5, netting a bonus point to earn four points instead of the regular three the next day.

No fixture was released for this weekend with MRPA Secretary Musa Dlamini saying it was in respect of the second edition of the Buganu Festival billed for Hlane Royal Residence this weekend.
