MINISTRY OF HEALTH IN CRISIS;
MBABANE – Patients have no alternative but to seek help at private hospitals after doctors, who are specialists, resigned all at once after a meeting with the Ministry of Health officials, recently.
Impeccable sources have revealed to Eswatini News that the four doctors had requested an urgent meeting with the Health officials, including the Director of Health Services, Dr Okello and Principal Secretary, Dr Simon Zwane.
The director of health services and the PS confirmed to this publication that the specialists had resigned for various reasons, however, impeccable sources have alleged that the doctors were frustrated as they complained that they did not have working tools. “There is no equipment at all at the Mbabane Government Hospital and the doctors were frustrated due to the lack of medical supplies and also perishables, which are working tools for the doctors,” alleged the source.
Dr Okello, the new Director of Health Services, who replaced Dr Vusi Magagula, who recently retired said: “We do have equipment. What varies are supplies and perishables, some of which may vary in quantities due to supply chain challenges. The specialists didn’t report the reasons for their resignation as lack of working tools. They reported other personal reasons,” explained Dr Okello, yesterday.
The four specialists, who resigned are an orthopaedic surgeon, paediatrician, internist’s physician, and a dermatologist. The names of the four specialists are known by this publication but their names cannot be disclosed as they could not be reached for comment at the time of compiling this report .

the alleged difficult working conditions due to lack of supplies, which resulted in their patients having to wait for long periods before they could attend to them.
“There are over a hundred patients who have been waiting to consult the orthopaedic surgeon, however he could not attend to them due to the lack of working supplies at the government hospitals,” alleged the source.
