‘Beyond 2000’ apologises to PLE Executive Committee

- BY MACHAWE FAKUDZE

MBABANE – Former national team Sihlangu Manager and Mbabane Swallows General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane has clarified his statement towards the PLE Executive Committee.

Zwane had on national radio taken a swipe at the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) leadership, suggesting that the standard of the game was down under them while it was also wrong that the big teams like Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers were not represented in the leadership.

This was on Monday before he clarified himself on the same national radio, Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS). He had gone to the extent of questioning how the leadership could succeed when they were failing in their own teams.

The PLE came out to respond through Executive Committee member Charles Matsebula, who is the Managing Director (MD) of Pigg’s Black Swallows in the National First Division League. Zwane clarified that he was not attacking anyone, but was merely advising those with powers to elect the executive, to elect capable people to take local football towards the right direction next time.

VOTED

He conceded that they voted the current executive into office but advising people to prepare for next time was all he did. “It was a topic that we were talking about while on air as people out there are concerned that our football is taking a nosedive and I then took the initiative to advise as there was nothing that we could do now, as we are the ones who elected them. Mine was to advise those with rights to elect not that I was fighting anyone,” Zwane explained.

He finally said he was very sorry if this was received wrongly by anyone as he never directed it to a specific person, but was just sending a friendly advice.

Meanwhile, Matsebula highlighted that most of the members were in the elite league before they were relegated due to the fact that their focus was on re-building the PLE brand and that was the reason why their teams got the chop. He also said they were not failures as they were serving the PLE under a very difficult era, having assumed office during the COVID-19 pandemic.
