That's my son - MP LaZwide
MBABANE – “That’s my son.”
This was said by Siphofaneni MP Nomalungelo LaZwide Simelane yesterday when she heard some of those who were in court saying they had seen a person walking with the aid of crutches near the vehicles in which the accused were transported to the High Court. Zweli’s leg was amputated after he was run over by a train in April 2018.
He is one of the accused along with Economic Freedom Fighters Swaziland member Siphosethu Malinga and Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) member Mxolisi Simelane.
Dilly-dallying
LaZwide was in the company of Zweli’s sister and they were dilly-dallying about going to the police to request to see him at the parking lot, where the vehicles transporting them to court were parked. They were not sure if the police would allow them to speak to Zweli.
LaZwide and Zweli’s sister eventually went to the parking area and requested to have a word with him and they were allowed to see him. They remained with him for about 10 minutes and appeared excited about it. The accused persons were brought to court by armed police officers in a Toyota Quantum, which was escorted by two vans.
Zweli and his co-accused arrived at the High Court at 9:50am and waited at the parking lot for four and half hours.
Appeared
They eventually appeared in court at around 2:30pm.
Before the judge arrived in court, LaZwide glanced at the accused persons from time to time and she had a word with him and his attorney before and after the matter. Relatives of the accused persons and a large number of people, mostly the youth from Siphofaneni attended the matter.
Some of them were heard encouraging the accused persons to be strong. Zweli requested those who were in court to pray for them. Members of SWALIMO, including the Spokesperson, Thandaza Silolo, and the president of EFF Eswatini, among others, also attended the matter.
