MTN's Muzi, 4Eva cyclists shine in Cape Town Tour

MBABANE – MTN Khemani and National Road Champion Muzi Shabangu conquered the 109km Cape Town Tour.

The MTN Khemani cyclist clocked 2:43:43 hours and came position 111 out of 18 479. In the gender category, he was ranked 110th out of 14 665 cyclists. He was position 41 from his age category, which had 1 038 cyclists. This was the race which attracted over 30 000 cyclists across the globe. It was held on Sunday in Cape Town. Reached for comment, Shabangu said the race was good but proved challengin­g.

“Despite that it was bit hard; I enjoyed the whole experience since it was my first time. I gained the experience of riding in a big group since it was one of the biggest day races in the world,” said Shabangu.

Reports also coming from Cape Town, revealed that the trio of 4Eva Cycling Club cyclists also shone in their respective categories. This was according to 4Eva Cycling Club Team Principal Clinton McNamara.

“Team 4Eva elites performed well and completed their first Cape Town Tour, 109km.

Seeded

“Each was seeded in different groups. They were in the top of their groups. Kwanele Jele completed in 2:56:04 hours in the Elite group. Makepeace Bailey completed in 2:56:25 hours in Group 1B, finishing in the group of 331 cyclists,” said McNamara.

He said Malik McNamara finished in 3:02:26 hours, coming 25th in his group of over 500 cyclists.

“The team did very good average times which will increase their seeding in South Africa as well as prepare them for the Eswatini Nationals and the Tour of Durban and Amashova on their internatio­nal events,” he said.

The 4Eva elites were not alone with Esau DuPont, Clinton McNamara and Cordelia Henwood DuPont also participat­ing and completing the Beautiful and Scenic event. Over 30 000 cyclists took part and definitely a Bucket List Ride for cyclists. Also MTN Khemani cyclists took part in one of the biggest races in the world. They included Nomfundo Jiyane, Gciniwe Fakudze and Happiness Mthethwa, among others.
