Meet Bonsile, the first female Police Commandant
MBABANE – Bonsile Masuku is the first female Commandant of the Matsapha Police Academy.
Before her appointment, Masuku was Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Assistant National Commissioner.
Masuku was posted as Regional Commissioner Police Academy early this year, which was described as a significant stride in the incorporation of women officers into strategic positions in a vacation that had been always male dominated.
Worth noting is that the National Commissioner of Police William Tsitsibala Dlamini is on record having said that the gender orientation of an officers should not be a barrier in optimally maximising their potential.
“Women officers have a pivotal role to play in policing and sustainable quality service delivery,” said Dlamini during the Gender Network Conference held last year. Masuku is said to have joined the police service on November 2, 1992 and was posted at Nhlangano Police Station upon completing her Basic Recruit Course.
As fate would have it, she later became Nhlangano Police Station Commander.
She had been described as a rare breed and had served in a number of police formations, including Matsapha Police Post, the then Police College Command Wing and, most recently, as Director Legal Affairs.
Masuku was described as a disciplinarian and had exceptional leadership skills which were necessary qualities for the Commandant Post.
She holds a Bachelor of Law Degree and had attended a host of specialised courses including Alternative Sentencing in Commonwealth Jurisdictions in the southern Africa region, Command and Leadership Course for Senior Women, Strategic Leadership Management Course and Defence and Security Management.
