PIGG’S PEAK – Pigg’s Peak Acting Mayor Absalom Ndlovu has been in possession of his nine guns, which were stolen, for 32 years.

This he revealed this yesterday and highlighted that the guns consisted of pump-action rifles and pistols.

A pump-action rifle is a rifle where the forend can be moved forward and backward in order to eject a spent round of ammunition and to chamber a new one. Pump-action mechanisms are often regarded as faster than a bolt action and somewhat faster than a lever action, as it does not require the trigger hand to be removed from the trigger while reloading. Most pump actions do, however, have a firing mechanism using a hammer, which leads to a longer lock time than the hammer-less mechanisms found on most bolt rifles. Furthermore, pump actions often have little or no mechanical leverage in order to aid in chambering and primary extraction, as opposed to a traditional turn-bolt action.

Meanwhile, a pistol is a handgun, meaning a small gun. “Our parents trusted me as the guardian of the guns because my younger siblings might not have known how to handle the guns, which may results in tragic accidents. I have been in possession of the guns for 32 years,” said Ndlovu. The acting mayor highlighted further that the people who robbed them had not yet been apprehended by the police.

The guns and a Mercedes-Benz sedan belonging to Pigg’s Peak Acting Mayor, Councillor Ndlovu, were stolen last Thursday morning at Glen Township during a housebreaking incident. This occurred at around 11am, where three armed unknown men jumped over the fence to gain entry into the acting mayor’s home to steal the guns which Ndlovu was in legal possession of.

Suspects

It is yet to be established how the suspects knew that the mayor had the guns in his house. When the incident occurred, the acting mayor said he was not at home and the robbers found his wife. They are alleged to have assaulted and tied her up and were carrying guns in a duffle bag which they threatened to use to shoot Ndlovu’s wife. The acting mayor said the assailants came prepared for the job with tools they used to forcefully open their safe to steal the guns. The vehicle was recovered on the same day as the police highlighted that it was abandoned by the robbers who only went away with the guns. The police further warned that the suspects were considered dangerous as they were in possession of the nine stolen firearms.
