MANZINI - Sibling rivalry is prevalent these days and this time around, it has resulted in a man punching and stabbing his own brother.

Sifiso Mfanimpela Zwane did the unthinkable when he punched his younger brother Bandile with fists several times all over the body and stabbed him once in the lower lip with an Okapi knife. The bone of contention between the two was that Bandile had offered his baby mama a place to sleep at their home.

The accused appeared before Manzini Acting Principal Magistrate Sindisiwe Zwane yesterday. He was charged for contravening Section 77(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act.

Evidence

When presenting evidence before court, the complainant (Bandile) disclosed that on the day in question, he was coming home from afriend’s place at night when he came across the mother of his child.

He said he learnt that she was stranded as she was without transport to attend a funeral. The complainant mentioned that he then offered to go with her home to spend the night there.

When they got home, he narrated that he went to his father to report about his baby mama and to request for his permission for her to sleep over.

“While informing our father, my brother came and disturbed us, telling me that the mother of my child was not allowed to sleep at home as this would give an impression that I bring in women for him when his woman is not around,” said Bandile.

The complainant mentioned that their father tried to calm them down but their argument broke into a fight.

On the other hand, the accused told the court that the reason for him attacking his brother was that he was against him bringing other women into their home.

The court found the accused guilty as charged. Sifiso was sentenced to six years imprisonment with an option of an E8 000 fine.
