NEW VILLAGE – New Village residents were terrified when they discovered a man lying dead, with blood splattered all over, near a market place at Enkhomeni.

New Village is one of the densely populated townships, mostly accommodating workers from the Matsapha Industrial Site.

The shocking discovery was made by residents at about 5:30am.

An eyewitness said she was approaching her market shelter when she saw a group of people standing around a man on the ground. As she came closer, she realised that the man was dead, with multiple stab wounds and the body was leaning against the wall of her market stall.

Shock

She said she raised the alarm, after which some residents came to try and identify the body. The vendor shared that the police were subsequently called to the scene and they took the body away.

“This left us with so much shock and trauma because the blood was splattered all over the place. We even had to remove it by washing it away with water,” said the eyewitness.

She said all sorts of assumptions were made by the residents on the cause of death.

She said some suspected that he had been a victim of a gruesome robbery while others thought he might have been involved in a violent fight.

Meanwhile, some vendors were seen sprinkling water with ash at their stalls as a means of removing the spirit of the dead man from their businesses.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the death of a 37-yearold man, who was found with stab wounds in the neck. Vilakati said there were no arrests made yet.
