Kenyan expert back for national sports development

- Nimrod Hlophe

MBABANE – Tennis expert Oketch George is in the country. According to the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Communications Officer Mkhulisi Dlamini, George is in the country courtesy of Olympic Solidarity to empower the Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA) to oversee the second phase of the Development of National Sports Structures (DNSS) programme.

The objective of this programme is to allow National Olympics Committee (NOC) to develop their national sports and coaching structures by implementing a mid to long-term action plan for a specific sport on the olympic programme.

This, according to Dlamini, was due to the fact that it was believed that development of sport in certain countries is often hindered by the fact that the national sports and coaching structure is disorganised or even non-existent.

EOCGA Marketing and Communications Officer said the first phase of the programme began last year and so far it was benefitting ENTA.

Worth noting is that EOCGA has lived true to its words that it would give space to sports associations as it has hosted this session of the programmes in its new offices at Lobamba.

The DNSS programme session is already underway and is set to be complete by midApril.

On another note, the OlympAfrica Centre, which is a department within EOCGA, yesterday hosted their second Youth Games Day at KaLanga Technical Centre.

The first session was staged at Lobamba at OlympAfrica, a couple of weeks ago where it was attended by about 400 children.
