Putin puts nukes in Europe for first time

-

LONDON - The family and best friend of Princess Diana’s chauffeur Henri Paul have condemned Netflix for ‘raking over the bones’ of her fatal Paris crash in the name of ‘entertainment’.

New pictures showing a replica of the mangled Mercedes Benz car which carried Diana to her death in Paris have emerged on the film set of the hit royal drama ‘The Crown’.

The latest instalment of the loosely-historical series will include the devastating crash in the early hours of August 31, 1997 in the Pont d’Alma tunnel that claimed the lives of Diana, Dodi Fayed – and chauffeur Henri Paul.

But the incendiary footage and flashback reconstruction have sparked fury among those closest to former French Air Force pilot Henri Paul who have

RUSSIA - Russia will station tactical nuclear weapons in neighbouring Belarus in response to Britain’s decision to provide Ukraine with armor-piercing rounds, President Vladimir Putin announced.

The rounds which are set to be provided to Kyiv’s forces contain depleted uranium, and Moscow has falsely claimed that they have nuclear components as it escalates its confrontation with Ukraine and its allies.

Supporter

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a staunch supporter of the invasion, has long asked for the weapons on the territory, Putin said during an interview on Russian State television.

It will be the first time since the mid1990s that Moscow will have based spent more than two decades living with the fact he was blamed for the most infamous car crash in history.

The row comes after Netflix signed a US$100 million deal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex which has already provoked anger from the royal family at the way they were treated in last year’s Harry and Meghan documentary series.

Condemned

Alain Paul, the driver’s only surviving brother, and Claude Garrec, Henri Paul’s best friend, have condemned the filmmakers for exploiting the crash victims and ‘throwing him to the wolves’.

Speaking from his home in Lorient, France, Paul told MailOnline: ‘‘I don’t want to have to see the wreckage of a car that my brother died in over and over again. It’s inhumane.

‘‘This Netflix dramatisation of my such arms outside of the country, something it said the US has done for decades.

Putin made the announcement at a time of growing tensions with the West over the war in Ukraine and as some Russian commentators speculate about possible nuclear strikes.

Raised

Putin told State television that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had long raised the issue of stationing tactical nuclear weapons in his country, which borders NATO member Poland. ‘Tactical’ nuclear weapons refer to those used for specific gains in the battlefield.

The belligerent Russian president argued that it wouldn’t violate global efforts to limit the spread of nuclear weapons, as the US has done the same for years. brother’s death is cruel to me and my family. They did not warn me they were going to bring this tragedy back into the spotlight again.

‘‘Yet again people are trying to profit from the death of my brother and of Princess Diana.

‘‘I don’t know how they can call this entertainment. For them it is simply business. And as it’s only business for them they should send me a cheque.’’

‘‘They didn’t even have the decency to inform me about it.

‘‘Every year it’s the same. At the end of August there is someone wanting to rake over the bones of the victims.

‘‘Me and my family have had to learn to live with it. It destroyed my parents. But now they are dead and my brothers are dead, it is me that has to deal with it on my own.’’

‘‘There is nothing unusual here either: Firstly, the United States has been doing this for decades.

‘‘They have long deployed their tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of their allied countries,’’ he said.

‘We agreed that we will do the same - without violating our obligations, I emphasise, without violating our international obligations on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons.’’

Specify

The Russian leader did not specify when the weapons would be transferred to Belarus.

Russia will have completed the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus by July 1, Putin said.

He added that Moscow would not actually be transferring control of the arms to Minsk.
