IYA proves why she’s worth it

MBABANE – iYA’s performanc­e blew the roof off, at the Hilton Garden Inn on Friday.

The launch saw a packed room of supporters who gathered to witness the artist¶s amazing performing skills.

6inger, songwriter i<$, born 1khosiyabo­ngwa 'lamini needs no introducti­on, as she has built herself a successful music career that is growing steadily and consistent­ly and this is evident through attendance at her extended playlist (3 launch, on )riday courtesy of the -azz *allery. +er simplistic and natural approach to music speaks to her sound, which is a blend of soul 5n% and modern contempora­ry -azz. The show started at pm, attendees had already swamped the place by then, mingling and sipping on their drinks. The artist elegantly stepped onto the stage in an all-black outfit, a black polo neck with pearls around the neck and matching black pants and blazer. The artist hit it off by introducin­g herself and welcoming her guests. )rom the first melody that exited her lips, the audience was in total awe and utter amazement over the eccentric and mesmerisin­g tone that the artist had.

The crowd even had a favourite song titled µ,t¶s you¶ which she sang with such conviction. i<$ told the audience that the song was about a lover. ,n her rendition of songs, the artist attributed *ospel and the ¶s 6oul 5n% to her childhood and early music developmen­t.

6he draws inspiratio­n from *od and from a number of 6oul -azz musicians like 5obert *lasper, (speranza 6palding, +.(.5. and 3- Morton. 6he has been influenced by the likes of (rika %adu, Moonchild, $lex ,sley, &leo 6ol, to name a few. +aving worked with well establishe­d artists and huge brands, it is safe to say that her future in the music industry is bright.-ust after pm, there was a short recess for attendees to grab a few refreshmen­ts and mingle. ,t was then when this publicatio­n got a word with the artist to find out how she felt about the proceeding­s of the night.

³The turnout tonight was really unexpected and , am so grateful to everyone who took time off from their errands to support me and my work,´ said i<$. The artist also took a chance to appreciate 1elisa /awton. 6peaking of /awton, when the artist jumped off stage she was in tears, she could not control herself, and how proud she was of the artist whom she assisted to grow in the industry. ³, have helped a lot of young artists, but i<$ had always made sure to make me proud. 6he is so talented and she is what she believes she is,´ said /awton.

Life

i<$¶s music life began when she became a member of a band formed with friends µThe $froctaves¶ as the lead vocalist.

,n the band entered the T 1ational Talent 6earch competitio­n and made it to the semi-finals. 6ince then she has been nurturing her talent participat­ing in numerous recordings as a session singer, writer and vocal arranger. i<$ believes music expresses feelings that words alone cannot. $s beautiful and powerful music is, she sees it as a perfect way to touch souls, mend hearts and heal people emotionall­y. ,n , the singer signed with Mo6oul Media and their journey has been rising since. +owever, they didn¶t jump straight to making music as they focused on developmen­t for about three years before exploring making and releasing music. +er experience at Mosoul Media has been nothing but glorious, according to the singer, she says it has been nothing short of amazing.
