MaMkhize announces proceeds of new memoir

-

DURBAN - Reality TV star and businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize recently launched her memoir, Mamkhize: My World My Rules, at an event in her home province of KwaZulu-Natal. At the star-studded launch, Mkhize announced that its proceeds would go toward building a school.

“The money for this book is not coming to me,” she said in a video snippet on social media.

In the same video, she called out members of the media for allegedly reporting that there were people earmarked to get a certain percentage of shares.

“I don’t know how these people are going to get shares because this is not my money. This money is going to go to build a school, so whoever that’s supposed to get a share, they must wait for me to build a school first.”

Mkhize added that if the proceeds were insufficient, she would rope people in to assist her with the project.

“I just want to build a school, and I’m sure if this money doesn’t come to that, I’ll get one of the few people to assist me,” she said.

She added that her goal with building the school was to ‘change some of the children’ (lives)’.

Foodie Tyler Ledford and his date, Margot Mills, travel by boat to Hawthorn, an exclusive restaurant on a private island owned by celebrity chef Julian Slowik. The other guests are Lillian Bloom, a food critic; her editor Ted; wealthy regulars Richard and Anne Leibrandt; a washedup movie star and his personal assistant Felicity Lynn; business partners Soren, Dave, and Bryce; and Slowik’s alcoholic mother Linda. The group is given an island tour by maître d’hôtel Elsa, who notes that Margot is not Tyler’s designated guest. Dinner begins, and Slowik introduces a series of courses, during which he delivers increasingly unsettling monologues.

In 1918, Burt Berendsen is sent by his estranged wife’s parents to fight in World War I. While stationed in France, Burt befriends African-American soldier Harold Woodman. After sustaining injuries in battle, Burt and Harold are nursed back to health by Valerie Bandenberg, an eccentric nurse who makes art out of shrapnel removed from the soldiers, whom they befriend as well. After the end of the war, the three live together in Amsterdam and become close friends until Burt returns to New York City to be with his wife. Harold, who has fallen in love with Valerie and begun a tenuous romantic relationship with her, also departs to New York to fulfill his aspirations of becoming a lawyer.

“We own soccer clubs, and we see how talented kids can’t go to school and finish – they can’t even express themselves,” Mkhize said.

In the audience, as she spoke, were close family and friends such as her son Andile Mpisane and wife Tamia, along with daughter Sbahle. Durban power couple Sorisha Naidoo and Viv Reddy also sat front-row with former Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.

Other attendees included Norma Mngoma (formerly Gigaba), Minne Dlamini, Mihlali Ndamase, Duduzane Zuma, Baby Cele, Winnie Ntshaba, Kefilwe Mabote, Nonkanyiso Conco and Brenda Mhlongo.

Taking to social media, she said her heart was overflowing with gratitude.

“I’m truly at a loss for words,” she wrote. “The love and support Durban showed me on Friday was absolutely astounding.”

News24 previously reported that Mkhize marked the book as the ‘final chapter’ and the start of a new era.

“It’s my way of saying my peace, letting things go, healing my wounds and saying my final words to my parents and my brother, who are physically no longer with me,” she said in a press statement.

‘This marks a new dawn and beginning for me.’
