MBABANE – Green Mamba midfielder Mxolisi Mkhonto is off to Royal AM for a threeday assessment.

The player left the country via Lavumisa Border Gate yesterday morning, for assessment at the DStv Premiership side. Despite the player getting the greenlight from his team Green Mamba, the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) is not aware that he has left.

According to EFA Chief Executive Officer CEO Frederick Mngomezulu, they expected all players back in camp last night.

“I am not aware of what you are talking about; all I know is that players must report back this evening (last night). The national team is the highest level and in case of any offers, the national team always comes first before any team,” said Mngomezulu.

He said all players were told about their return to camp. When asked if they could pardon the player just to finish his three-day assessment and be allowed to camp, he said: “I do not want to comment about that, like I said, the national team comes first; I’m not aware of that certain player; the players are expected to be back in camp to prepare for the upcoming COSAFA Cup.”

Meanwhile, Green Mamba confirmed that the player was at Royal AM for assessment.

“Right now I am in a meeting, can I get back to you. We can confirm he is at Royal AM for an assessment,” said Green Mamba CEO Mandla Sibiya.

When asked if the player got permission from Green Mamba, he said he was given blessings to try his luck at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) side. He said, however, they were advised to communicate with the agent, Dingane Maduma to communicate with EFA CEO Mngomezulu.

Mkhonto was first linked with SuperSport United along with Mbabane Swallows’ Kwakhe Thwala. Reports suggested Kwakhe was also supposed to go for the same assessment at Royal AM, but got held up at Sihlangu.

His exceptional display also got him a national team call-up. He was part of the squad that played against
