JOHANNESBURG - Police are close to cracking the double-murder case of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, Police Minister Bheki Cele said on Tuesday.
This comes after KwaZulu-Natal police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said earlier this month that police had located the weapon used to kill the rapper and his friend.
Mkhwanazi said they had also identified some of the vehicles used during and after the murder, and were discussing positively identifying some suspects with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
“The cars have been found, people have been identified, even the firearm that was used has been found. So, they are chasing exactly this person and are not very far from dealing the final blow to this case.
Cele said during a media briefing in Pretoria. The minister, flanked by the police’s top brass, provided an update on recent successes achieved by the SA Police Service in response to serious and violent crime, especially aggravated armed robberies, kidnapping, extortion and cash-in-transit heists.
Forbes and Motsoane died outside a Durban restaurant on Florida Road on February 10.
CCTV footage shows Forbes hugging Motsoane outside the establishment. Moments later, a gunman walked from the side of a vehicle parked outside the restaurant and shot at the rapper and his friend as bystanders scattered. The gunman and another suspect were then seen fleeing the scene on foot.
The rapper was honoured with a public memorial that was attended by music industry heavyweights.
