Siphesihle, Nolwazi take throne at Kwaluseni Freshers Ball
EZULWINI – There is a queen and king on the block! The competitive Kwaluseni Freshers Ball made its return on Friday night at Woodlands Hall in Ezulwini.
Students showed up in numbers to contest in the reputable competition which began at 8pm.
Before gracing the ramp, the students were served with dinner while others were still making their way into the venue.
Excitement and vibrant energy filled the room when contestants were called on stage to start parading before the judges.
The loud screams that filled the hall reflected the high expectations that students had for this year’s competition.
The first parade was for couples and was followed by female parade.
It must be said that the last parade was for male students. After an intense contest which lasted until midnight, the judges made their decision and crowned a Bachelor of Law student and a Bachelor of Commerce student.
According to the judges decision, Siphesihle Mlotsa and Nolwazi Mkhatjwa emerged victorious after the intense battle which left students in awe. The two students now revealed the throne which was recently held by Mr and Miss Freshers 2021/2022 Vuyani Thwala and Phephile Shabangu.
Siphesihle Mlotsa, in an interview, expressed his excitement about winning. He revealed that he was persuaded by his friends to join the competition as he had not planned to contest.
PLEADING WITH ME
“It feels fresh, honestly I never had it in me and many people were pleading with me to contest,” he said.
“I decided to contest and I was ready for anything. Now that I have won, I would love to say that I am grateful to everyone who encouraged me. The love that you have shown me is incredible, I am humbled.”
Nolwazi Mkhatjwa also expressed her excitement after winning the crown, mentioning that she was inspired by her tailor to join the competition.
“I am overwhelmed, I am just filled with so much joy,” she said.
She said she took part in the competition without expecting that she could win.
Nolwazi disclosed that she was inspired by a friend to join the contest. She said her friend also tailored her dress.
“My friend was like I am going to design a dress for you and you are going to join the competition and take the crown as a queen,” she said of her friend.
“I’m here because of him, this win is definitely for him because I didn’t want to join the competition. Shout out to him and I am so happy.”
Nolwazi was crowned alongside the first princess Tengetile Khumalo and Sibonelo Maseko, who was crowned as second princess. On the other hand Siphesihle Mlotsa was crowned alongside first prince Ndabenhle Beyond Gwebu and second prince Bandzile Maziya.
