More rain forecast for Fiji group

The Public are advised to be alert umbrella at as the Fiji Meteorolog­ical Services issued a forecast for more rain in the next few days. Director of meteorolog­y Ravind Kumar said: “The associated rain bands are forecasted to affect the group for the next few days. “More rains are expected over the Fiji group, this is due to the moderate to fresh West to Northwest wind.

“It is advisable that people are to remain prepared at all times and keep updates with the latest weather bulletins.”

Keep listening to the radio he said for the updates and take alerts and warning seriously. Mr Kumar said a gale warning previously in force for Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa Island was now cancelled. “A strong wing warning remains in force for the land areas in the southern Lau ground but it is cancelled for the rest of the Fiji group,” he said. At 7pm last night, TC Ula was anticipate­d to lie about 368km west-southwest of Ono-iLau or about 335 km south of Kadavu, about 415km west southwest of Ono-i- Lau or about 320km South-Southwest of Kadavu at 7am today.

“On this track, the centre of the cyclone is expected to remain to the south of Fiji and not directly affect the country. The associated rain bands are forecasted to affect the group for the next few days.” Meanwhile, Ono-i-Lau recorded the most rain fall yesterday with 72.5 mm. Other centre’s recorded rain fall includes Yaqara (30.5mm), Nacocolevu (30.0), Lautoka Mill (28.8), Tavua (26.0), Nadi Airport (23.6), and Lakeba (17.3). Edited by Paula Tuvuki
