Luisa Mary Wilson, 61, was shocked yesterday by the sad news of her brother’s death when she visited him in his home in Wailekutu. Her Brother, Timoci Naibiriki Wilson, 51, died in an accident when his vehicle collided with an ambulance near Veisari. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the ambulance was travelling towards Nabukavesi to attend to an accident case. But it is also understood the ambulance was on its way to the Fiji Car Club drag race at Nanuku Aerodrome in Deuba.

The collision forced both vehicles into a three metre deep drain. Police investigations are continuing. Ms Wilson said she was hoping to surprise his brother after having last seen him on July 27 when she was admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

“I waiting for him today (yesterday) hoping he would turn up. Little did I know he was rushed to the hospital,” she said. “We learnt of the news when a relative came home and told us he saw the vehicle at the scene of the accident and heard his name on the radio. “I’m a single woman and my brother has always supported me. I will greatly miss him. “My brother and I were very close. When I was in the hospital for three weeks, he came every time to visit me. “When I was recovering, I heard from my sister in Australia that he suffered from a stroke. I was shocked as he was very healthy.” Ms Wilson who is from Waisomo in Kadavu, describes her brother as a loving father and a good person who had a big heart and cared for his family. The late Mr Wilson had been serving in the Republic of Military Forces for the past 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Varamua Wilson and daughter Maria Wilson. The family did not wish to release any photos of him for publication. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
