Emosi Torosi had flashbacks of Cyclone Winston while watching donors present stationeries to two student representatives from Koro and Vanuabalavu islands.

The assistant head teacher of Kade Village Primary School in Koro said he felt blessed and thanked God for answering their prayers. He said: “When this thing was going on today, my thoughts and everything was going back to the students in Koro because of the hardships they had to go through especially studying in tents and the living conditions isn’t that good yet. And what the parents are going through to be able to provide for their children’s basic needs.” He learnt of the generous donation last week when he was asked to submit a quotation outlining the number of students and colour of their uniforms.

He said they called him yesterday morning to receive the donations. “For us the cyclone ended right in the afternoon and we went around the school compound and saw that all the buildings had been destroyed as well as the teacher’s quarters. We found that only one house was standing and most of the students didn’t have proper clothes as it was all destroyed,” Mr Torosi said.

“It looked like a war zone. Like nothing was there that was not destroyed.” With the new year just days away, Mr Tora is looking forward to starting the new year positively. Edited by Naisa Koroi
