There is a need for service stations in Nadi to have operational convenience.

This is a collective approach Nadi Town needs to take.

These were the words of Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju during the NCCI trade seminar in Nadi. He said: “When expanding the town into a city, Nadi has to pay attention to what it’s obliged to have. Hence, service stations should be convenient.”

Dr Raju added there was a wellequipped service station before reaching Naviti Resort.

“I think it has become a very good stop over and has excellent facilities and I think this is one area we can look into and we can immediately plan.

“Of course you have pay users in overseas countries and pay users is working well in Nadi market now. They are very nice and clean, and a place where tourists can be directed.”

He said there was a need to have brochures and pamphlets to direct people to where those facilities were located.

Dr Raju said more Tourism Council of Nadi magazines would be printed in coming months.

“We have distributed over 5000 copies and we will be looking into doing another one soon, so that every tourist that arrives at the airport could get a hold of one and know where to go.”

Meanwhile, Nadi Town Council special administrator Robin Ali said they faced economic and social challenges, especially in trying to increase the town boundaries.

“We are ready to facilitate that transition from sugarcane-based economy to tourism-based economy. “And at the same time to promote economic diversification to reduce the exposure of Nadi economy to tourism-related business sights,” Mr Ali said.

“The social challenges are to face and address the social consequences associated with the above economic transition. Maintain trust between the council and the stakeholders.

“The principles are directly or indirectly addressing the aspirations of the people’s charter. It is to put the interest of the public at the top of its priority.”

He added they had compiled the papers and forwarded it to the Ministry of Local Government for the minister’s approval.
