Love, Compassion Key Area to Protect Children
Love and compassion are key to saving children from heinous crime, abuses and harassment.
Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy made the comment when he condemned the recent case of a 12-year-old being the youngest person who is an alleged perpetrator of a rape.
“When children are subjected to that kind of case it’s an indication of a number of things happening in the society,” Mr Reddy said.
“The social structure maybe disintegrating and therefore the society as a whole should look at what needs to be done to ensure that the social structures that we use to protect our children are reinstated,” he said. He added that parents needed to continuously engage in active communication with the children and assist them in tough situations when noted any.
Mr Reddy also hoped that the children would always be protected and remain safe as concerns grew in regards to victims of rape as well. “Our children need to be nurtured, to be protected and they need to be loved because they have a life ahead and they cannot be subjected to that level kind of abuse which will destroy their future, unfortunately these things are happening,” he said.
“Our parents need to be in contact with their children and see how they could be assisted in tough situations if they find themselves in some kind of dangers.”
