Brother of Dead Victim Recalls Fateful Night

Former Rewa football player Kelepi Qaqa, Josaia Vusuya and Tevita Turaga are charged with one count of murder each.

The trial of former Rewa soccer player, Kelepi Qaqa, Josaia Vusuya and Tevita Turaga, who are charged with one count of murder each started yesterday at the High Court in Suva.

The trial is presided by Justice Salesi Temo. he was out drinking with his brother with one other friend when they met Qaqa, who was also drinking at the same Bridge nightclub in Nausori at the time of the alleged incident.

The court heard that Mr Nacanitaba was the one who paid for the alcohol, which was consumed by others in the group.

During the night, Qaqa told the group that he was missing $2.50 and their expression changed. Mr Nacanitaba said he then told his brother to go to another nightclub. He told the court that as he and the brother were leaving the Bridge nightclub, they suddenly saw Qaqa and his friends following them. Mr Nacanitaba told the court that he and his brother were stopped by Qaqa and his friends to ask about his money.

He said he then told Qaqa that he did not know about any money and that they were heading home. Mr Nacanitaba then told the court that after conversing with Qaqa and his friends he and the brother headed to the Whistling Duck nightclub in Nausori.

He said while walking to the Whistling Duck nightclub, he did not know that Qaqa and his friends continued to follow them, until they suddenly saw them when they reached the RB Supermarke­t. Mr Nacanitaba told the court they then decided to go through the ANZ Bank passage way when Qaqa punched him above the right ear. He told the court that Qaqa and his friends then attacked his brother. Mr Nacanitaba told the court that he saw a person punch his brother on the lower right jaw. Representi­ng Qaqa, Vusuya and Turaqa is Suva lawyer, Ana Tuiketei.

The trial continues today where Mr Nacanitaba is expected to be cross-examined.
