Adriver was admitted at the Navua Hospital yesterday after a flying metal rod hit the windscreen of the bus he was driving.

Avinesh Chetty, who drives for Pacific Transport, was injured by glass fragments. He is under a 24hour observation.

Mr Chetty declined to comment. It is understood the rod came from a truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.

A passenger who posted on Facebook said they were travelling towards Pacific Harbour when a metal rod flew off a passing truck and hit the windscreen of the bus. The passenger said the bus was slowly travelling up a steep hill and the driver managed to stop the bus without further incident.

The driver was taken to the Navua Hospital by a passing car.

Police are investigating.

3-vehicle crash

Meanwhile, a three-vehicle crash held up traffic at Princes Road, outside the Australian High Commission gates in Suva yesterday. A woman allegedly lost control of her car, crossed the centre lane and hit two vehicles, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said last night no one was injured.

Police are investigating and have once again urged the public to take extra precaution on our roads. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “We are once again recording accidents and while it is fortunate that those involved escaped serious injuries.

“It is still a concern because despite the repeated requests to be safe, there are some who continue to be inconsiderate of the rights of other road users.

“Again it boils down to the attitude of drivers and there is a need for change.”

Korolevu accident update

On Saturday afternoon, a firefighter

from Korolevu Fire Station who spoke to Fiji Sun in condition of anonymity said: “The incident happened at around 5:10pm on Saturday.

“The driver and his colleague were travelling towards Lautoka when their vehicle veered off the road.

“They then managed to come out of their vehicle safely,” he said.

The firefighter said by the time they reached the accident scene, the driver and his colleague were safe and they were standing near the roadside.
