School, Govt Effort Enables Learning Expansion
The cost of constructing the four classrooms was $111,000; $30,000 was contributed by the Fijian Government
Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy opened a new four-classroom block at Vunimono Islamia School in Nausori yesterday.
The four classrooms were constructed within nine months by the IMTI’s Construction.
The cost of constructing the four classrooms was $111,000 of which $30,000 was contributed by the Government.
Mr Reddy said: “Our Government believes that it is through education that we will be able to ensure that our people, our future Fiji can have a peaceful, stable and prosperous future.
“Our Prime Minister, our Government believes that we need to educate everyone immaterial of what ethnicity they belong to, what religious beliefs they hold or where they originate from.”
Based on that Mr Reddy said the Government engaged in policy making for all. “Our Government believes that it does not matter if you are out of sight, you will still be in our mind,” he said.
“Our Government makes policies, keeping in mind people in the remotest island and that’s where we begin our policy making thinking how they will be affected and how we can contribute to uplifting their standards.”
Mr Reddy said with the small assistances from the Ministry of Education they had seen the community, and faith-based group coming forward providing money and raising funds to construct classrooms so that their children would get the best education. School manager Abdul Nasim said: “Today is one of those moments that we all have been looking forward to since the construction of the new building commenced.” The new block houses the school’s kindergarten and classrooms for Year 1 to 3 students.
