The Vodafone Fijian football coach Christopher Gamel has admitted that the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers clash against New Caledonia tomorrow will be a David and Goliath battle. Gamel did not mince his words knowing of the tough battle that is ahead of them after a confident looking New Caledonia side arrived at Nadi International Airport yesterday.

“I just can’t wait to play this kind of tough game so I can gauge my Bula Boys,” the French national told SUNsports.

“The team has started to respond and we’ve seen videos of their games and it will be tough. I know their coach and he has brought some professional players from France. For us it’s a big test and it’s important to know the level between professional and amateur football and we will try to do something about it.”

Gamel added that their result against New Zealand was not so bad after the All Whites’ lost to Northern Ireland 1-0 in Belfast last Saturday.

Meanwhile, New Zealand based- striker and national football captain Roy Krishna joined the team yesterday.

Krishna said he was not sure what the team is up to but believe they are ready to deliver on game day.

“We’re looking forward to the game on Wednesday and to make our country proud. We need everyone’s support by being there to cheer us on. The boys are training well, I’ve just joined the team today but I think the boys can do it.”

The national football team visited Cuvu College in Sigatoka while on their way to Ba where they were welcomed by the students.

Today, the side will visit Nukuloa College in Ba at 10.30am followed by a press conference at the Fiji FA Ba Academy at 1pm. The New Caledonia clash kicks-off at 4pm tomorrow at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
