Two Australian­s confirmed among London dead

The Federal Government has officially confirmed that two Australian­s were killed in the London terrorist attack. Overnight London Metropolit­an Police confirmed South Australian nurse Kirsty Boden was one of the victims, while there have been grave fears for Queensland woman Sara Zelenak, who has been missing since the attack.

The Federal Government said British authoritie­s had asked Australia to hold off on releasing the victims’ names pending official confirmati­on of their identities and the families being officially notified.

“The Australian government is deeply saddened to confirm that two Australian­s have been killed in the London terrorist attack,” Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said in a statement. “The Australian government has remained in close contact with the families who have requested privacy. “We ask the media to respect their request at this difficult and harrowing time.” London-based nanny Ms Zelenak has been missing since she was seen fleeing from the terrorist knifemen who brought havoc to London Bridge. The 21-yearold’s family said there has been no word from her since the weekend. London’s Metropolit­an Police released a statement on behalf of 28-year-old Ms Boden’s family, saying “Kirsty was loved and adored by her family, friends and boyfriend”.

“She was the most outgoing, kind and generous person who loved to help people,” the statement read. Prince Harry, speaking at the opening of the Invictus Games in Sydney, paid tribute to those affected by the attack, including the Australian­s involved.

“I would like to start by sending my thoughts to those affected by Saturday’s attack in London Bridge,” he said. “Australian­s form an important and vibrant part of the fabric of life in London and we are reminded of that in good times and bad.
