‘WORLD FRIENDLIES­T’ RACE STARTS TODAY

Over 250 participan­ts from all over the world will join the ever-growing representa­tion of local athletes at the 5th Fijian Internatio­nal Triathlon in coming days on Denarau Island which starts today.

The event which finishes on Sunday is being organised by the 100% Events from Australia.

The participan­ts include those from Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Ireland, USA, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and French Polynesia. The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa public relations, marketing & communicat­ions manager Ravesi Konrote said the Fiji Internatio­nal Triathlon has set the benchmark for destinatio­n triathlon events. “Now dubbed the “World’s Friendlies­t Triathlon” Sheraton & Westin Resorts, Fiji have been part of the developmen­t of this world class multi-sport festival from concept inception through to the showpiece event it has become today,” Konrote said.

Attracting profession­al athletes like 11-time Ironman champion Cameron Brown through to families, the festival offers a variety of sports from Ocean Swims, Fun Runs training clinics and of course the triathlon events.

“The festival has become one of Fiji’s largest and most prestigiou­s multi-sport events.

“In addition, these participan­ts will travel with their partners, families and friends to support them, with a bonus of a Fiji Holiday and making a significan­t contributi­on towards our tourism industry and economy. As one of the major sponsors, Sheraton & Westin Resorts Fiji has also secured two prestigiou­s races out of the seven main race categories. The Westin Super Sprint Cup & The Sheraton Fiji Resort Sprint Triathlon.

The Westin Super Sprint Cup will be hotly contested by both internatio­nal and local athletes and is a race that features some of Fiji’s most promising young athletes.

The Sheraton Fiji Resort Sprint Triathlon race attracts the biggest field of competitor­s across all the weekend’s events and includes a 750m open ocean swim, 20km bike and 5km run for 14 to 70+ year olds. “There has been a great deal of camaraderi­e between visiting and local triathlete­s over the years for this event,” she added.

The event is supported by Fiji Triathlon Associatio­n, Sheraton Fiji, The Westin, Radisson Blu Fiji, Sofitel Fiji, Tourism Fiji, Higgins Fiji, Crest, Paradise beverages, Powerade, FIJI Water, Pacific Fitness, Sharma Music, Go Dirty Tours, Fiji One, Tri Travel, Mix FM, and Destinatio­n Denarau.
