Green Infrastructure Project Development and Financing
Regional workshop for Kiribati, Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu on Green Project Finance
The ‘Green Infrastructure Project Development and Financing’, will be working closely with the Fijian community and other Pacific Island Countries to get better renewable energy sources.
This was confirmed by the Global Green Growth Institute’s (GGGI) director general Frank Rijsberman yesterday.
“We have organised a regional workshop with people from Kiribati, Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu on Green Project Finance.
“The participants will learn about how they can come up with greener infrastructure projects, clean energy and how to finance them.”
GGI regional representative for the Pacific green growth planning and implementation. Katerina Syngellakis said they are looking at solar energy for tourism and solar energy for water pumping. The study is to look at how we can sustain 100 per cent renewable energy to Ovalau and Taveuni Islands.
“We are working at looking at possibilities of getting electricity from hydro, solar and other renewable energy technology.” Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport Paul Bayly said that the National Green Growth Framework was an innovative tool to accelerate integrated and inclusive sustainable development.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is focused on developing green infrastructure as part of the Government of Fiji’s efforts to drive down our greenhouse emissions and to ensure Fiji becomes more resilient to climate change,” Mr Bayly said.
“It is our core business to continue to promote and establish an affordable, reliable and climate change resilience infrastructure in the transport, water and energy sectors that is accessible to all Fijians.”
He said that as part of Governments commitment, they were looking at providing 100 per cent renewable energy by 20130. The two day workshop will end today at Holiday Inn in Suva.
