Solar energy is a highly effective way to fight against climate change, says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

He said this while launching the Coca-Cola Amatil (Fiji) solar energy project – the company’s first solar power plant in the Pacific – at Laucala Beach, Nasinu, yesterday.

He said Coca-Cola Amatil (Fiji) had embraced solar energy to help power their factory here in Nasinu. “And in doing this, you are taking a key leadership role in persuading private enterprise throughout the Pacific to do the same,” the PM said.

“Because we all know that embracing renewable energy is the key to solving the challenge of climate change, which poses such a danger to our way of life in the Pacific.

“I salute the company for its vision on behalf of every Fijian because what you have done here is a practical and highly effective way in which the private sector can make its own contribution to the fight against climate change.” Coca-Cola Amatil group managing director Alison Watkins said their sustainability framework focused on four areas that were vital to them.

“It is where we believe we can make the most impact on our people, consumer well-being, environment and the community,” she said.

“It is a fantastic outcome for Amatil and the environment.” Sunergise Co-Founder Ajay Raniga said Sunergise was delighted to partner with Coca-Cola Amatil to create the largest grid connected roof top installation in Fiji.

Coca-Cola Amatil (Fiji) general manager Roger Hare said they looked forward to the partnership with Sunergise as they extend their project to their Lautoka and Labasa sites.
