Technical, Further Education Offers Quality Education
External validation of The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE’s) quality is a signal to current and potential students for their study investment with Pacific TAFE. Qualified and industry experience teaching staff will make student’s learning more enriching with the provision of support services.
At this year’s Open Day on Friday July 28, interested students will learn more about Pacific TAFE’s programmes and get to meet its administration and teaching staff who are always ready to help students with academic advice.
In a nutshell, Pacific TAFE is a strategically amalgamated and integrated learning and teaching section which offers high quality Skills Based Qualifications (SBQ’s), Foundation and Preliminary studies.
The programmes provides employment opportunities at entry and para professional levels, pathways for higher studies at USP where approved, and career advancement for working people.
The four learning and teaching units are; College of Business, Tourism & Hospitality;
College of Arts & Humanities; College of Science, Technology & Environment; and Workforce Development Training Unit (WDTU). Students can visit their College of Arts and Humanities booth and talk to professional staff on pathways for higher studies at Faculty level after completing Preliminary or Foundation level programmes. Staff will be ready to assist students with career pathways in Early Childhood Education, Librarian, Training Officer, Counsellors after completing Skills Based Programmes.
Students can view displays such as Early Childcare Centre Models, student testimonials, speak to students who are already in the industry and own a Day Care Centre or work as preschool teachers. With regard to starting a business via ECE&C qualifications, students can start their own Child Care Centre, a service which is lacking in Fiji and is in great demand at a global level. Students will learn how to educate and care for children below the age of eight (8) years.
At the College of Science, Technology and Environment, students will get to meet professional and well qualified staff to discuss career pathways to undergraduate degree programmes. Students can view demonstrations on Computer Hardware Devices, Science Lab demonstrations and experiments by students, get a glance and use science lab equipment, speak to students and industry mentors for career pathways and their study experiences at USP.
Furthermore students can explore the IT programme which is recognised by Skills International, New Zealand. As for the College of Business, Tourism & Hospitality Programmes, students will receive advice on career pathways in Tourism & Hospitality, Human Resources, Project Management, Accounting, Office Management, Business Development after completing Skills Based Programmes. Students can view displays such as Career Pathway posters, student testimonials, speak to students who are already in the industry, view models and demonstrations on Cookery at the Pacific Fusion Restaurant.
