Couple Go to India Together After Scholarship Approval
High school sweethearts, now married, Akhilesh Chand Shiuram and Bhavika Naidu, are two of the recipients who have been given an opportunity to study in India.
This is thanks to the Indian High Commissions to Fiji under its scholarship programme.
The couple who are graduates from University of the South Pacific leave today to further their studies at the Mandsaur University in India.
Also leaving today is Fiji Sun digital journalist Roneel Karthik who will be pursuing a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Delhi.
Mrs Naidu, 23, a school teacher at Nakasi High School was given the approval to study a Master of Science in Geography while husband Mr Shiuram, 23, will pursue his Masters in Computer Science. “We have been together since high school, completed USP together and got married. We came to know about the scholarship through the
Fiji Sun and we thought we could give it a try,” Mrs Naidu said. She said a few days ago when she received news that she has been offered the programme, she was overwhelmed but became worried as her husband was yet to receive confirmation on his scholarship. “We have not been apart for so long, we studied together and went through everything together,” she said.
“But thank God it came through, he received his confirmation finally and we were both excited. “We will be away for two years, on a journey that’s different, studying in a new environment and we are happy that our families have been supportive.”
The couple tied the knot in February this year.
