Community Aims to Curb Crime
The revival of the Navurevure Crime Prevention Committee in Tuatua, Labasa, guarantees the reduction of criminal activities in the area.
The community invited a team from the Labasa Police Station to enlighten them on Tuesday night and also formalise the revival of the crime prevention committee. Committee president Nasir Ali confirmed that the initial committee was elected in 2010 but failed to carry out its role because some members had moved out of the community.
“Criminal activities is a concern, we all deserve to live in a safe and free community,” Mr Ali said. Labasa Police Station team congratulated the Navurevure residents for their partnership as the new committee would assist them to reduce criminal activities in the area.
Delailabasa Police Post officer Nitesh Nand said: “The revival of this committee is bound to help minimise crime in this area and we have been well received by the community members who have pledged to help us, the Police, in this matter.”
Mr Nand highlighted that among the common issues reported in the area included domestic violence, child abuse, drugs, theft, drunk and disorderly.
“Make an effort to know your neighbours as per the Police Commissioners policy.
“We are looking forward to your co-operation,” Mr Nand said. Mr Ali was optimistic about the revival of the crime prevention committee.
“We will help the Police in every way possible to help reduce crime in our area,” Mr Ali said. “One of the major issues that we face is the consumption of alcohol and we want to eradicate it.” More than 40 families make up the Navurevure community.
