Nawai Aims For Knockout

Gusty Siliveni Nawai is going for a knockout against Pita Tabuarua in the 8x3 minutes round in the Kiran Boxing Promotions at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday. The Tubenasolo, Nawaka native has been undefeated since his debut on November 26, 2011. “I am going for a fourth or sixth round knockout,” Nawai said.

“I do have respect for him since he is a veteran and a very experience­d boxer. But I won’t fall for that, I have been preparing really well and looking forward to win by knockout.”

The 23-year-old middleweig­ht boxer has fought seven times and won four by knockout. He defeated Nereo Cakautini, Kunal Nair (3), Wahid Khan, Osea Nakanacagi, and Meli Vutevute.

He will be banking on the support of his relatives from Vunavutu in Nadroga.

“This will be my first fight in Sigatoka and I will dedicate this fight to the people of my mother’s village and not forgetting the tikina of Nawaka. “I also thank the promoter for giving me this opportunit­y to fight in Sigatoka.”

Trainer Chunchul Baba Kumar said, “We are going for a knockout as we want to continue the unbeaten run so far.”

Tailevu native Pita Tabuarua dubbed ‘Tailevu Tiger’ had an impressive career where he has fought 45 bouts recorded 23 wins (12 KO’s), 18 loss (10KO’s) and drew four.

The 6’1’ boxer last fought in 2011 where he won over Iosefa Cakaunival­u.
