Queen Elizabeth ‘ordered’ Diana to divorce Prince Charles: Ex-butler
Princess Diana never wanted to divorce Charles but it was “taken out of her hands” when she received an “order” from the Queen, according to new claims by her ex-butler, Paul Burrell.
The controversial former royal staffer said yesterday princess did not want to divorce Charles, despite their turbulent marriage and wellpublicised affairs, because she had not wanted her sons, princes William and Harry, to grow up in a broken family, as she had done.
“It is a myth the princess wanted a divorce,” Mr Burrell said yesterday, speaking at an exclusive event at the Gold Coast’s luxurious Palazzo Versace hotel.
“She didn’t want a divorce, she wanted a separation.”
But the decision had been “taken out of her hands”, when she received a stern letter from the top lady, he said.
Charles and Diana were divorced in 1996, a year before Diana’s death.
