The Government has allocated $7,354,000 for the province of Kadavu.

Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau revealed the figure while opening the two-day Kadavu Provincial Council meeting at the Studio 6, in Suva yesterday. Mr Koroilavesau said $1.4 million has been allocated for safe and realible water supply throughout Kadavu. He said Government was not just spreading words, but carrying out everything it said it was going to do.

“The budget is to cater for the schools, housing, water, electricity, setting up of small businesses and social welfare money for the old people to list some,” Mr Koroilavesau said. “Government plans and assistance programmes will only work and or succeed if people are working together for the same vision.” Mr Koroilavesau alluded that the Yawe 4.9 kilometres and the Nabukelevu-i-Ra 9.7km roads were in progress. These roads are used by 3000 people for easy access, markets, and schools. “The Government knows the amount of money coming out from the province, and will give its best in upgrading the roads for easy transportation in order to generate more income and better accessibility to schools, health centres and trading points,” he said. He also confirmed that Government has proposed for new bridges in Soso in Naceva, and Nabukelevu. Mr Koroilavesau encouraged the members of the elite Kadavu forum to save money and set up businesses. He also urged everyone to contribute to the development of their province. “I urge you to work together with the Government to build a better Fiji.” Mr Koroilavesau encouraged them to also quicken up the filling of vacant leadership seats in their respective villages and districts. “Having these vacancies filled will help strengthen ties in the village and or district settings.”
