Waisale Serevi is challenging players to get behind Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber for the World Sevens Series. The sevens rugby legend praised Baber for the work he has done for the team.

“I think the players need to try and get into the programme and train harder because we are aiming to win the Rugby Sevens World Cup as well in 2018,” he said.

“I think Gareth is doing his best to try and develop the team to get back to the top.”

Serevi believes adding depth to the squad by bringing in young players in build-up to the 2020 Olympic Games is a good strategy by Baber.

“It’s always important to add depth in the team and that’s what he is doing at the moment by getting a lot of young players to prepare to the World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games.

“A lot of players have moved on but I believe there are still a lot of players that can do the job for Fiji.”

He added players need to learn more is about the consistency.

“Some of the players are playing well in one tournament and they are struggling in the next that is what is happening at the moment.”

Serevi is urging the people as well to support Baber and the boys in their preparation towards the next round of competition.

“It is important for the people to support his idea, there is only so much a coach can do.”
