Bus companies happy with e-ticketing system
Bus operators in the Central Division are optimistic that the e–Transport card system will be a success despite the teething problems.
Sunbeam Bus Company Limited general manager Zahid Wahab said the implementation and the roll-out of the e–Transport system was excellent. He said they had anticipated some hiccups but believed that the public were ready for the implementation.
“Our view on e-ticketing is very positive now, and this is something that should have been implemented a long time ago. This is all about working together and to provide a solution. I want to thank the Government of the day for assisting in implementing this,” he said. Mr Wahab said there was still a need to raise awareness but at the same time he was confident that this would be a success. “Some customers have difficulties in identifying the stages they going to, but our drivers always assist customers in that,” he said. Tebara Transport Limited chief executive officer Arvind Maharaj is apologising to their customers for any inconvenience caused in the first few days of the implementation. “This is just a temporary phase and we seek your patience as we are working hard day and night to rectify all the issues with all stakeholders in this project to ensure a better customer experience to you all,” Mr Maharaj said. “Should you face any issues with our drivers or the e-ticketing system, kindly contact us on e-ticketing hotline number 7733400 and we would be happy to assist you between 7am and 7pm.
“We wish to also remind you that when boarding the bus, first tell the driver your destination and then tap your card later. This will prevent any wrong amount deducted from your card.”
Nasese Bus Company Limited manager Ricki Kumar said they had raised concerns with the service providers about some of the consoles that were not working. “About overcharging, we will have to return the money to the customer. We welcome the e-ticketing system and we will see how it works,” he said.
