Three Northern boxers are optimistic of winning their fights in the Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotions which will be staged at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Friday, October 13.

The boxers along with co-promoter Simon Naushad were at a press conference at the Northern Fitness Centre in Labasa yesterday.

The boxers are veteran lightweight Saven Singh, Tevita Seta and Krishneel Chand.

Speaking to SUNsports, 32-year-old Seta of Savusavu said he’s going to beat Iosefo Cakaunivalu of Jittu Boxing Stable.

“I’ve boxing in my blood since my father Luke Kerelotu and uncles Jare Lalakai and Atama Raqili were prominent boxers during their time,” Seta said.

Raqili was the former South Seas middleweight champion while Lalakai was the only local boxer to have stopped former heavyweight champion Frank Atu.

“This will be my first professional fight and I want to win for my sixyear-old daughter Ambrose Vulivuli,” Seta added.

Also making his debut is 30-yearold Krishneel Chand of Lajonia who is determined to stop Aklesh Pratap. “I had 15 amateur fights and this fight against Aklesh Pratap of Suva will definitely be a win for me.” Basoga boxer Singh said he would put his 22 years of experience into use when he takes on promising Jim Nalawa of Lautoka.

“This is not my first professional fight and neither the last of my career. I’ve fought many great boxers like Junion Farzan Ali and Krishneel Mudaliar. Nalawa will be easy for me and definitely I’m returning home with a win.”

Vunivau Boxing Club trainer Joseph Naicker said, the boxers have been training hard for three months.

“I’m confident that they will produce great results and make our district proud,” Naicker said. “Apart from them we’ve more boxers in line for the much-awaited boxing promotion at Subrail Park on December 16.

The North are renowned for producing top boxers like Joe Keresi, Inia Catarogo, Sikeli Veitala, Noa Bukai, Tomasi Bukalidi, Poasa Tamaidilewa, Sikeli Gavidi, Tevita Vakalalabure, Lorima Rakula, Kitione Somumu, Setefano Vasiubau, Sharamat Shah, Solo Catarogo, Bobby Shah, Jim Anthony, Lote Duna and the list goes on.
